MLB.com released its top 10 first baseman prospects list today, which quickly became the top link on many NL Central team’s home pages. Before the massive turnover at first the past few years, the division was home to a few long-tenured household names: Albert Pujols, Prince Fielder, Derrek Lee, Lance Berkman(former ‘Stro turned Cardinal), and Joey Votto (who is still with the Cincinnati Reds, in fact)

Happy New Year, baseball fans! In preparation for the New Year, I went was following each NL Central team, putting together one Rival Report for each day of this first week. Originally, I planned on mentioning each team’s stories once per week, until I decided it made more sense to just cover the top stories every day. Below are some of the more interesting pieces from the last week of 2011. In a few days (after this winter math class dies down), regular Rival Reports will be coming at you!
